Hearing that there are solar panels in our schools parking lot, is not new to anyone who goes to Mira Costa.
But does that mean you know how they got there?
Well, it all stems from Proposition 39. The California Clean Energy Jobs Act, also known as Proposition 39, changed the corporate income tax code and allocates projected revenue to California’s General Fund and the Clean Energy Job Creation Fund.
I know, I know. Super long and confusing. SO, long story short without this proposition our school would not have our solar panels.
According to the California government, about $550 million annually is available for use by the Legislature for eligible projects to improve energy efficiency and expand clean energy generation in schools.
Since our solar panels are energy efficient, our school was eligible for money to help pay for the solar panel project.
So now you do know the answer. Next time someone asks you how the solar panels got into the Mira Costa parking lot, you can tell them they are there because of Proposition 39!
