Fleet racing is a type of competitive sailing in which about thirty teams of two people compete against each other on the open water. The boats race out to a buoy and loop back, the first to cross the finish line wins. Six students from Mira Costa go to the King Harbor Yacht Club in Redondo Beach and practice for fifteen hours each week in order to receive P.E. credit. Their season lasts from September to January and they compete in about twelve races per year.
