Costa students produce roughly 1,125 pounds of trash every day after lunch. But most of this trash doesn’t even make it into the trash can. After lunch, empty pizza boxes, crinkled napkins, and food-covered utensils can be found littering the Mustang Mall. Although the Grades of Green recycling program at Costa has helped to reduce the amount of trash and increase the amount of recycling, what doesn’t make it into the trash cans attracts more than just looks of disgust. Custodians allot a portion of their day to cleaning up after lunch, but they aren’t the only ones picking up the trash.
