Mychal’s Learning Place is an organization created by Ed Lynch that works to challenge and encourage children with special needs to find success. Opened in 2002, Mychal’s learning place was originally made an after school program for children in Hawthorne. They have since grown to open a second location in Culver City with the help from the community and raised money. Since opening the after school program, Mychal’s Learning Center has grown in size and in programs. They now provide over seven programs including the Path to Independence Adult Day Program where they learn essential independent living skills and job skills in this program. In December 2015, they launched Mychal’s Howl at the Moon Café, which is a mobile coffee and baked goods service. The job training aspect teaches participants how to be baristas and bakers and will be able to use their skills and experience to apply for jobs in the community.
