Political Effect on Clothing
June 4, 2019
In our society today, it has become a widespread trend to base clothing options off of political statements. For example, April 24 is now known as “Denim Day”. This day is a way to support all people who have been sexually assaulted and educate themselves and others on all forms of sexual violence. This day was inspired by a court hearing that ruled that the victim had consented due to the fact that she had worn skinny jeans. Other forms of speaking out on political issues through clothing include wearing “pussy hats” to support woman’s rights, wearing red to support teachers pay and the color black for the Me Too Movement.
