In 1975 the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia and committed mass genocide killing over 2 million Cambodian’s. They targeted teachers, scientists, and artists. After the regime most of the traditional Cambodian dances that date back to the 7th century were lost. The few people who still know the dances teach at Cambodian Living Arts which is a program that teaches young people these ancient traditions and keeps the art form alive.
