These last 3 news cycles were my first of Junior year as a News Director of the Mustang Morning News. It has been very interesting going into a new leadership role in staff, as I am in charge of a large portion of the shows production. It’s weird to think how far I’ve come from Freshman year, going from just a new student in the intro class to now running the show. It has not been an easy road, so I am fortunate that I’ve had a ton of help from my Co-News Director Mac, who has done a ton to support the staff and I in every way. When hurdles came in terms of workload, Mac was there to help me split it. The bulk of our issues came from our anchor shoots. At first, there were a lot of technical issues involving our camera knowledge. We got through the by learning how to use the cameras effectively and correctly by practicing during our lunch and office hours. The shows below are our first of this year and took a lot of time and work from the whole staff to produce. I had a great time making them, especially the third show, which showed a ton of improvement from the first and second one after we put the time into learning the technology of shooting. My role in the production of these shows was largely creativity based. I was a part of the story idea creation, along with helping groups making editing decisions on their packages. I also helped film every anchor intro shoot, along with anchoring myself in the second show. I’ve always wanted to anchor for the MMN since the first show I watched, so it has been very fun to finally fulfill this goal. The first time I anchored I didn’t know if I was doing well or not, I was not confident in myself and I felt that there were big shoes to fill from our last anchors. I then realized that lack of Confidence was my issue and I improved my anchoring for the 3rd and last show. The staff’s main goals this year is to gain recognition for our hard work through winning a pacemaker. I know we can do it if we put in hard work and improve each show, which has up to this point been the case. I want to personally improve through my involvement with news stories. My time often felt split between the “What Now” and the main show, so I felt that there were some mistakes that I should have been able to catch.
