Paradise Bowls is a local business that sells smoothies, oatmeal, and açai or pitaya bowls. The owners of this delicious breakfast place are two great friends, Justin and Alex, who are former members of the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres. These baseball players started their business based on their values for a healthy lifestyle; this includes having a daily diet containing two international superfruits, acai and pitaya.
When you first walk in you get the same impression that you would going into Jamba Juice, but the nutritional options are quite different. The six main ingredients stressed are almonds, goji berries, hemp seeds, bee pollen, cacao nips, and honey. All six provide the necessary Omega 3, amino acids, and vitamins needed in a daily serving. Their most unusual topping, bee pollen, loads the body up with amino acids, vitamins, and minerals; while also aiding in the detoxification of the liver, giving the immune system a boost, and has also been said to help reduce the risk of cancer. On the walls are beach-like paintings that give a laid back impression and the employees are very upbeat. All in all, you get good vibes from the very first step inside.
The prices are just as amazing as the food. For açai or pitaya bowls, the sizes available are the mini ($4.50-$5.25), the small ($6.75-$7.25), and a large ($8.25-$8.75). All smoothies are $4.75. Add-ons include mango, almond slivers, coconut shavings, bee pollen, hemp seeds, honey, goji berries, granola, blueberries, bananas, and strawberries.
The first time I went, I got the South Bay Swell, which was a pitaya bowl with blended peaches, strawberries, bananas, and pineapple juice. Then placed on top were more bananas, strawberries, blueberries, goji berries, a thin layer of granola, and a light drizzle of honey. The combination was fruity and the granola gave it a nice crunch. This first time I went was in mid-morning so it was fairly crowded, but the wait was only a little under 10 minutes, which was impressive with the amount of others waiting in line for their breakfast treat.
The second time I went to Paradise Bowls was fairly early in the morning and I got my bowl right away. This time I delighted myself to the açai bowl -Twist. This mix between a yogurt or a purée was a blend of açai, strawberries, banana, and lemonade. On top was a surplus of bananas, strawberries, goji berries, granola, and honey. The Twist was probably my favorite of the two and definitely the perfect place for a light, tasteful, and healthy breakfast.
