Today, proposals aren’t just for getting married. What used to be a simple tradition of asking someone to prom, has now evolved into a full on production causing expectations to climb year after year. Old traditions used to include a simple bouquet of spring flowers paired with the straight forward question: “Will you go to prom with me?” However, boys have come up with new, innovative ways to pop the question to their dates, almost mirroring actual marriage proposals.
This year, one junior, Garrett Barghash, went above and beyond for his 2013 ‘prom-posal’. Inspired by a real marriage proposal on YouTube, Garrett used his talents in video production to create a movie trailer that was played on the big screen of a theater, just before the private screening of The Great Gatsby for the junior class field trip. To the encouraging cheers of the 150 students that attended the field trip, Garrett successfully delivered his Hollywood-style prom-prosal. By the way, she said yes!
Other prom proposals have included dances choreographed, rehearsed and then performed in front of the entire quad at lunch time. With the increasing amounts of extravagantly public proposals, girls are beginning to expect more from their prospective dates. Given the striking creativity of the prom proposals this year, one can hardly wait to find out what next year’s batch of prom proposals might hold for those lucky ladies or gentlemen.
