This Saturday, the coastline will be filled by people with gloves and buckets for international Coastal Cleanup Day. The Ocean Conservatory is hosting this event up and down coastlines, California and beyond, to reach global beaches.
Plastic and other waste materials are carelessly dropped on beaches or drift in to shore, posing a major health concern for all animals- land, air, and sea. Being the world’s largest volunteer effort to clean up waterways and the ocean, last year nearly 600,000 volunteers worldwide removed over 10 million pounds of waste. Anyone can participate in the location most convenient, whether it’s the south side of the Manhattan Beach pier or San Francisco Bay.
However, regardless of availability to attend, everyone can take a part in keeping our seas spotless by choosing reusable products wherever possible, recycling all plastic, and helping to cleanup the litter that is irresponsibly discarded.
