November is epilepsy awareness month. One is considered to be diagnosed with epilepsy if they experience two or more unprovoked seizures, which are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Because of the different causes of seizures, many of which are unknown, every epilepsy patient experiences epilepsy differently. 3 million Americans and 65 million people worldwide currently live with epilepsy.
If doctors can target a specific region of the brain that the seizures are coming from, patients can operate to end their seizures almost completely. There are also medications that patients can take.
