Previously eradicated diseases are starting to resurge in both the developed and undeveloped world. Diseases that have been seen thus far include scarlet fever, tuberculosis, mumps and measles. Vaccines have been created that protect us from falling ill with such diseases, but when the decision is made to opt a child out of receiving these vaccines it may result in a higher chance of contracting an illness that could have otherwise been prevented. As of January 2014, a new law went into effect that requires both a parent and doctor to sign the Personal Belief Exemption form before deciding not to vaccinate a child. The form ensures that the parent or guardian has been informed of the health benefits and risks of immunizing including the health risks to the student and the community resulting from declining the recommended immunizations.
