Debate over Hermosa Oil drilling has caused a stir in the local community for almost two years. Citizens have strongly expressed their opinions through campaigning and advertising. Mrs. Nielsen is trying to get her AP Chemistry students involved in local controversy, using their skills that they learn in class and applying them to real world situations. Students have attended rallies, assembly’s, and beach clean-ups to create their oponion on the project. Teachers and students enjoy projects like this but often can not fit them into their curriculum because of AP requirements.
