In 2016, the state of California passed a law, stating that all single stall bathrooms must be genderal neutral. Now, 17 states and 200 cities in the United States let trans people use the bathroom that matches their gender identidy. The Manhattan Beach Unifed School District released a statement in April 2017, explaining that they started to take steps to make Mira Costa a “protected learning enviornment” for students, “regardless of a child’s or family’s immigration status, religion, sexaul orientation, gender identidy, race, gender, or any other protected class under California law…” The Gender Sexuality Alliance club has been an important part of bringing transgender bathrooms to Costa’s campus, and educating the community about the imoprtance of making sure all students feel included on campus.
