With approximately 795 million people suffering from hunger and 360,000 refugees from Darfur living in refugee camps in this world, iACT is trying to make a difference. Their mission statement states, “iACT provides humanitarian action to aid, empower, and extend hope to those affected by mass atrocities.” As a nonprofit organization, they serve about 9,000 refugees a week.
With the help of now seniors Micaela Tomaro, Julia Nuttall-Smith, and Amalia Lohis, they worked with Katie-Jay Scott, Chief Operating Officer for iACT, to bring the club to Costa. Not only do they have bake sales, they also hold equipment drives and volunteer at iACT events to help serve the people of Darfur, and the Darfur United Soccer Team, an all-refugee team based in Sudan.
If you’re interested in getting involved with the organization, visit the Volunteer tab on the iACT website.
