Taking SAT and ACT prep courses can be costly to some, but people don’t realize that free test prep works as well. Khan Academy, and other online sites have cost efficient ways of going about studying for these tests. For example, free prep books and practice tests are alternative methods for studying, that can potentially help raise your overall grade on such tests. The College Board showed data of students who used free prep courses, and they were able to get on average 90 points from when they first took the PSAT, and to the real SAT. Test prep books can be found in school libraries for students to check out and study. For Compass Education Group, the private tutors are able to raise student’s scores 3-6 points for the ACT, and 60-120 points per section for the SAT.
