Crime in Manhattan Beach has had an increase of 14% within the past year according to the official Manhattan Beach City website. The Manhattan Beach Police Department has taken initiative in developing a new program where they can have access towards security cameras of residential and commercial lots with permission granted by the owners. All of those who wish to sign up may register on their website. However, this comes with a disclaimer stating that “By submitting this form, registrant is aware of and consents to the release of video imagery to the public/media or to requestors, as allowed under the California Public Records Act.” Business owners and residents have reacted with different opinions towards this new program.
