If you were wondering, no, I’m not asking about your zodiac sign. But what I am going to ask you is if you have any extra pieces of wood planks lying around in your garage, yard, or anywhere in the house. Grab a plank, a couple of paintbrushes, paint, and you’re ready to go.
We’ve all seen them on social media, in YouTube videos, and in multiple stores; those wooden signs with letters in fancy font quoting short phrases or ‘hipster’ sayings. Well today you’re going to learn how to conveniently make one of these signs with the help of a few steps. By the end of this DIY, you’ll be able to cover your entire wall with an extensive collection of wooden signs.
Materials you need:
- pieces of wood planks
- paintbrushes/sponges
- paint
- stencils (if available)
- CREATIVITY
What you’ll need to do:
- First, grab your plank. Make sure it’s not too big nor too small, so you’ll actually be able to see the designs on your plank.
- If you have wood primer, that can help to make sure your wood plank is smooth enough to be painted on. Otherwise, you can begin painting your wood right away. Feel free to create borders, different designs, symbols, words, anything you can imagine. (Words of advice: If you’re not a master at making perfect-sized letters in a picturesque font, you can make your own stencils out of cut-out paper or purchase plastic stencils from a craft store. This touch will make your signs look flawless.)
- Wait at least 3-5 hours for your sign to dry completely so there won’t be any smudging or fingerprints. Once dry, you can either: place it on your dresser for simple decor, drill 2 holes at the top of sign in order to hang on the wall, or make it into something creative, like a jewelry holder.
Repeat with multiple wooden planks! Personalize your signs with your own designs, decorations (like glitter, 3D effects, etc), or colors. Each sign will never be like the other. Through this tutorial, you can combine your artistic talent with an ongoing trend in just several steps.
