Activism vs. Performative Activism: What Really Makes A Difference?

Quincie Crandall, Social Media Producer

There has been an undeniable surge in activism recently, with topics ranging from climate change to black lives. These issues are not new, so the question becomes: why does everyone care so much now? This brings up the subject of performative activism, when actions are taken for societal gain rather than for genuine support of a cause. While working on this podcast, I realized how common performative activism is in our world today. I think I could have consolidated my interviews a bit more, as they are sort of lengthy. However, I kept them as long as they are because I thought the points made in my interviews were important and essential to the plotline of my story. I think I managed my time on this podcast better than I ever have on a story before. I had my research, interviews, and most of my VO done by the first week, and had a solid draft by the end of the second week, so I only had a few minor revisions to complete during the third week of our cycle.
