You always here the saying “high school is where you find yourself” or “high school is all about discovering the real you”…but for most people it’s about getting out of there as fast as you can to move on to bigger and better things. But i will say that you have a good chance of discovering what it is you want to pursue and or a hobby that you will stick with for awhile. For me, I had found a group of people that shared the same interests and a place that I could call my second home. It was a place of comfort, love, and passion. For me it was the drama room, room one. Within that room I met my best friends, found something I really love doing, and created some of the best memories of my high school career. From there, I met people who do all sorts of different things from sports to model united nations, and believe it or not, broadcast journalism. I joined that class, and from there I found what I want to do as a career; anchoring.
So, with that being said, I encourage you all to find a group of people that share your same interests; break out of your comfort zone and try something new because you never know what doors that decision could open for you. And believe it or not, I discovered all this my junior and senior year. I didn’t start out as a freshman doing these things, I was beyond clueless, but it was meeting new people that led me to try these electives and have two things that I loved doing that really helped me to keep going.
Aside from making new friends and joining interest groups, I got to go on so many amazing trips and have incredible opportunities. Don’t limit yourself from just doing the normal amount, allow yourself to go on trips and gain experience and be a part of some incredible departments. Compete and put yourself up to the challenges, you have nothing to loose but only things to gain. You will gain knowledge, skills, experience, and memories.
Let yourself be a part of something bigger than just academics or your typical school work because if you don’t I promise you you will want to pull your hair out.
High school flies by so make it what you wish.
