Tendonitis is common in student athletes due to a variety of reasons such as poor technique, playing too soon after an injury, improper equipment, and repetitive movement. Simply listening to your body and seeking professional help when you feel pain can minimize the risk of tendonitis and further injuries that can result from ignoring symptoms. These symptoms include pain in the area or loss of motion, such as losing the ability to perform as well in a sport or to do basic things like walking and standing up. Treatment includes avoiding the activity that causes the pain, icing, stretching, and taking anti-inflammatories. However, some people require more advanced treatment like corticosteroid injections, surgery, or physical therapy.
The most important thing to do if you are feeling pain is to immediately consult a doctor, who will be able to diagnose the problem and find a solution and the right treatment for you.
