At Mira Costa High School, there is a single place which harbors the spirit for students who embody qualities of leadership, passion, and determination. It harbors a spirit that serves a voice for all students, and a spirit that breeds a “tradition of excellence”. Room 42, the ASB room, is the stomping grounds for students who make differences in our community, students who work hard, and students who bleed our school colors—green and gold—day in and day out. Mira Costa’s Associated Student Body Government is comprised of a group of 60 students with the goal of improving life on our campus.
ASB coordinates everything from the stampede section for sports games, to the color of prom tickets, and just about everything in between. A campus like ours which breeds competition and success can only excel with a purpose, and that purpose should be the passion and love that we have for our school. A survey done by the National Federation of State High School Associations found that “In addition to showing support for their school, high school students with “school spirit” perform better academically, are more engaged in social and civic matters, and are happier in general than their less-spirited peers”
So, for those who lost their spirit for our beautiful school somewhere along the treacherous 4 year path to the future, it can be found, in room 42, Mira Costa’s Best place to find your school spirit. The ASB room can physically provide the means for spirit, like glitter, pom poms, and green and gold beads, but it can additionally serve as a symbol and an inspiration for the passion students should have for a school like ours. Because greatness deserves to celebrated.
