- Have to pee and can’t hold it in?!
Try the bathrooms in the cafeteria; they are usually empty and way faster than the line out the door in the east hall bathroom during lunch. WARNING: if you are limited to the east hall bathrooms, bring either a friend to hold your door or a textbook to set down and prop your backpack on because almost all of the stalls do not lock. (Freshman, you do not want to learn this the hard way). If you are someone concerned with cleanliness, the bathrooms in the math and science building are your best option.

- Who said lunchboxes are lame…?
Even though having your own credit card… I mean “snap card” at school is pretty cool, why wait in the lunch lines for 20 minutes when you could bring your own (most likely healthier) food? Lunch is the time of the day to see your friends or get involved with clubs; so pack a sack and maximize your social life (or study time)! Senior Halley Wong said, “I pack my own lunch every day because it saves me from waiting in the long cafeteria lines and I actually get to eat healthy food that I like.” Packing snacks is a good idea too. Most teachers let you eat during their class and you will definitely need them to stay awake during your 6th period.

- Choose your classes wisely…and with your counselor.
A majority of seniors take their required classes and a few electives during their four years, but many of them leave health, art, and P.E. (which are also requirements) to the very last minute. They end up having to take these classes senior year, instead of taking a cool course that they are interested in. So, if you can, take health online, over the summer, or as a semester class in your first two years. The other semester of Model UN or Geography may turn into your favorite class! As for the art credit, there is always Art 1 or Ceramics, but some electives like La Vista and Broadcast Journalism double up as an art credit and an elective. Most people join a sport which covers their physical education, but if you don’t, yoga or dance are good options … especially if you’re tired of taking the same P.E. classes that you have been doing since Kindergarten. If you take these prerequisites as an underclassman, you will be thanking yourself as a senior when you’re strolling off campus at 12:20, on your way to Cafe Rio’s Taco Tuesday’s.
- GO MUSTANGS!
Every Friday is Stampede Day so drive over to Party City and buy all the green and gold you can find. Beads, facepaint, ribbons…the wilder the better. Senior Emily Seth said, “A lot of freshman come to football games and they aren’t even wearing Costa gear because they think it’s lame. But by the time you’re a senior you realize how fun it is to dress in all green and gold and cheer for your team.” Here’s a tip: dressing up is not only fun, but it gives you a better chance to make it into the spirit page of the yearbook.
- It’s Just High School.
These four years may seem like the most important time of your life, but they fly by… so don’t forget to have fun! Take on a heavy academic load with rigorous courses if that is what you want to do, but do not take them solely for college purposes. You should register for classes that are challenging AND interesting to you. Maddy Otto said, “If you’re stressed all the time then you’re doing something wrong. If it means dropping a class or elective, then that’s okay. Only do what you can handle, your mental health comes first.” With nearly 200 courses being offered at Costa, there is bound to be a class that fits your interests.
High school is not only a time for learning in a classroom, it is also a time for learning about yourself. Branch out and sit with different groups of people. Join one of the 70 clubs the school has to offer. “Always say hi to people in the halls and talk to kids in your classes that you don’t know because you never know who you’re going to end up being friends with later” said Emily Seth. High school is a time for learning, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time along the way.
