Every student is unique and each schedule should be individualized, which is why Costa offers nearly 200 courses. With new classes added each year it’s hard to keep up. So, whether you’re unsatisfied with your schedule or curious about what you may be missing out on, you’ve come to the right place.
- Sculpture
Before you ask… No, it’s not ceramics. Sculpture is a completely different class, where students create sculptures that are formed using a variety of media, including clay, plaster, stone, found objects, metal welding and so much more! This class also keeps you in the know about a bit of history too, as it educates you about major works of sculpture all the way from ancient to contemporary times. It also doesn’t hurt that once you complete this course, you will have quite the impressive portfolio to show off
- Computer Science Principles
Over the next 10 years, there will be an estimated 1.4 million jobs in computer sciences, but only around 400,000 graduates will be qualified to do them. If you’re tech savvy or just interested in dipping your toe into the computer science world, this is the perfect fit for you. Each unit focuses on a computationally intensive career path and works on problem solving with open-ended projects. This class will help you develop planning, documentation, communication, and other professional skills that you can use in the future, even if you end up in a job completely unrelated to computer science.
- Financial Algebra
Have you ever been sitting in math class, wondering when you will ever use the pythagorean theorem again in your future? Or wondered when you’re finally going to learn how to balance a checkbook or maintain good credit like an adult? In Financial Algebra you will learn math related to financial topics like investing, entrepreneurship, banking, credit and more which will all be beneficial in the real world. “It’s math that we’re actually going to be able to use in our life. Unless you’re going to be a scientist or a mathematician, most math that we learn is inapplicable… we’re never going to need the quadratic formula in life” said senior Sky Karasik.
- Intro to Law
The phrase, “You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you…” is commonly heard in movies and on TV, but many people aren’t familiar with all of the other rights that US citizens have in a court of law. If you are one of these people, or are interested in going into the legal field, or just want a class to pair with another semester class, Intro to Law is for you! In this class you will gain a basic understanding of the legal principles that contribute to your duties as a responsible citizen, as well as learn valuable speaking and critical reasoning skills. Junior Maysen Marolda said, “Taking Intro to Law made me more aware of our rights and taught me how to be a responsible citizen”.
- Furniture/Cabinet Making
Are you good with your hands? Creative? Or in need of a new hobby? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then this is the class for you! In Furniture/Cabinet Making you do exactly that… make Furniture and Cabinets. This class is designed for students who are interested in woodworking as an occupation or avocation, and it gives them the tools to turn their passion for crafting into a career.
