Despite huge speculation, Apple’s latest edition of the iPhone to be released today will not have any competition from the rumored Amazon smartphone, which will not exist at least until next year.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was quoted in an interview with All Things D’s Tricia Duryee, saying “We will certainly [extend the product roadmap] — not any time soon — but next year. We have some more things that we hope people will enjoy. It’s premature for me to talk about them.”
And while Amazon customers will be drooling, Apple will be breathing a collective sigh of relief. The rumored smartphone is expected to provide even bigger competition for the latest iPhone than the Droid X was to the iPhone 4 and 4S. Thankfully for Apple they have another year to prepare for an even bigger race, that will most likely decide who has the upper hand the digital world for years to come.
