Youtube was created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005, and has been owned by Google since 2006. This website allows you to upload, share, and view video clips, music videos, TV clips, and other videos content such as short story videos, vlogging (video blogging), and educational videos. When YouTube was first invented it was mainly home videos of people doing funny stuff, very similar to America’s funniest home videos. As YouTube grew, so did the people who loved it. The “Youtube Community” consists of millions of people (a.k.a youtubers) who create videos daily/weekly/monthly/etc. for the people who watch their videos (viewers/subscribers) whenever they upload.
When you think of Youtube you probably think of cat videos or stupid people. This is because those were the popular videos we had when our generation was growing up. People watched YouTube simply because it was funny. It was the perfect way to make you smile on a bad day or laugh when you’re bored with a friend. But YouTube has developed a lot more since then.
YouTubers were born on October 1, 2005, but they were not popular until about 2010. Lucas Cruikshank, a.k.a. FRED was the first youtuber ever. Being a YouTuber is not only a hobby, but a job. Every time you upload a video and people view it, you get paid. Most YouTubers do not talk about how much money they get but once you are up to around 40,000 subscribers you can most likely make a living from YouTube alone. There are lots of different types of youtubers. Some examples would be: beauty gurus- hair, makeup, fashion; vlogger- video blogging (usually of a trip or vacation); comedy- skits or telling stories; animation- animated short films; director- short films with actors; tutorials- teach you how to do things, DIY; and more. A lot of youtubers will mix these (ex: have some makeup tutorials, vlogs, and comedy skits). All youtubers are very different and that is why there are so many. These are the top 10 youtubers.
