A unique thriller that constantly changes setting and characters, American Horror Story surprises with every season. Recurring actors; Jessica Lange, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson to name a few, perform each character completely different than the last.
The first season follows the Harmon family around as they move into a new house to escape a dark past. Arguably the best season, this was definitely the start of a new form of television. Combining modern characters with ones from as late as centuries ago, season one is a spooky ghost story with loads of special guest stars.
American Horror Story: Asylum is the second season that takes place in, you guessed it, an insane asylum. Filled with aliens, mad scientists and exorcisms, season two is a must watch from the series. Sarah Paulson shows her talent as a lead, and Evan Peters gives an emotional performance throughout the season.
The third season, AHS: Coven, was one of the slower seasons. Taking place in New Orleans, the focal point was on the history of witchcraft, and modern wiccans. An interesting topic that could have been executed a little bit better, Coven missed the target with this one. Lily Rabe is one of the few actresses who revives the season, as she portrays a witch who brings people back from the dead. Emma Roberts also shines as a rich, snobby witch bringing in comedy.
The currently running, fourth season; Freakshow, has good morals, but also manages to be a bit disappointing. This is the season where if a character dies, they will not be coming back, unlike the last three seasons, so choose your favorites wisely.
American Horror Story is not for the faint of heart, as it is for mature audiences. However, if you’re ready for the occasional blood and guts, and jaw-dropping scenes, the series is worth the watch. Seasons 1-3 are available on Netflix, and the fourth is currently still on air. American Horror Story airs on Wednesdays at 10pm on FX.
