High school athletes are taking a risk by participating in sports. Injuries from high school sports can range from something as minor as a twisted ankle or pulled muscle to something as major as an ACL or meniscus tear, prohibiting the athlete to play their sport for at least 6 months. According to a study done by University of Colorado Denver, 18.8 injuries occur per 100 participants in football in football and running makes up 8.2% of all sports-related injuries in high school, which is the second highest of all sports. Not all of these injuries can be prevented through conditioning during practice, however, there are ways to minimize the risk by stretching and warming up thoroughly.
