Last week, I reluctantly trailed along with my parents and their “marvelous” friends for a night expected to be filled with boredom, despair, and more boredom. What I presumed to be a loathed evening wasn’t half bad, thanks to the awesome experience I had at the MB Post.
Located on Manhattan Ave, the MB Post has been a restaurant that has always appealed to me. So, when I lingered behind the mass crowd of gabbing moms, the dim lit sign of the restaurant I had never been too lifted my spirits.
When I first walked in, I was immediately drawn to the layout of the place. A bunch of large, picnic tables were lined one by one, with other more formal seating arrangements around it. I was then informed that the location of the MB Post was actually built around the old 1960’s post office that once resided, creating a cool theme of community, socializing, and the mail, of course.
To add to the already “post office” feel, our menu was hand delivered by the hostess via mail, a really cute touch.
When the waitress came to our rowdy table, she gave a speech about the way the MB Post runs. She went on to explain that the menu was based on small, family style portions, and advised us to order a bunch of cheeses, veggies, and meats. Now, I wasn’t really paying much attention to her. I was consumed by the first item on the menu: Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits. Just those four words together was enough to make me order it, yelling over all my parents friends.
When the Biscuits came to the table, I jumped to grab the nearest one. Billowing steam poured out as I put some maple butter on it, regretting ordering this monster of carbs. Pushing those thoughts aside, I devoured it, and can honestly say that it was the best piece of bread I have ever eaten. The combination of the subtle bacon and cheddar with the extremely sweet butter was perfection in every form.
As I was swallowing the last bite of biscuit, a throng of vegetables and meat galore was placed before my eyes. The chaos of passing and sharing at the table was
Sautéed and crunchy, they paired beautifully with a drizzle of balsamic, hazelnuts, and sage. While I was eating them, they reminded me of the brussels sprouts at Tin Roof Bistro, which makes sense, since the restaurants are both owned by the same restaurant connoisseur.
Over the next hour or so, I inhaled a variety of spicy, sweet, weird, and glorious dishes that the MB Post updates every day. The food was some of the most unique combinations of flavors my taste buds have ever tried, but that wasn’t the best part. What truly made my experience at the MB Post memorable was the environment and sense of family they set up. Sitting squished and uncomfortably close to my families friends got me closer to them then I would ever imagine. The epitome of family style, and combo of food and facade made my presumed grim night turn sublime, thanks to the awesome restaurant, the MB Post!
