For over 50 years, Pann’s diner has been one of LA’s best-kept, local secrets, despite the numerous “Best of LA” nominations and awards its received. It’s funky architectural design is very recognizeable and original. It was opened in 1958 and has retained its 50’s diner style ever since. If you visit there today, you can pull up to a counter seat and listen to authentic tunes from the 50s, taking you back to a whole different era. Pann’s Diner was started by George and Rena Panagopoulos, who were experienced restaurant owners and chefs in the 40’s. Their unique location and landscape has made Pann’s a location for various films, such as Bewitched, XXX, and Next.
Pann’s is commonly known for their award winning biscuits and various other menus items, but in my family, they are most commonly known for their classic: waffles and wings. Ever since I can remember, it has become tradition for my family to order at least one plate of their chicken and waffles every time we’ve visited– for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or anything inbetween. Quite frankly, after being raised on Pann’s Belgium waffles, it’s difficult to eat any others; none other compare. And as for their wings, they have the whole family fighting for who gets to have a second one.
Of course, their menu isn’t just limited to their waffles and wings; their menu includes over 60 breakfast entrees and sides (which are served all day), along with countless lunch and dinner meals, and of course, their handmade shakes and desserts. Whether you’re feeling like having scrambled eggs and a biscuit, or a fresh catfish filet, Pann’s is bound to make anyone that walks in the door a happy customer. After going for over a decade myself, I’ve never had a less than perfect meal– or service. Their staff is always cheerful and quick with delivering you hot, delicious food at a reasonable price range.
