Many families have a restaurant that becomes a weekend tradition, and The Local Yolk is that restaurant for those families. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the service is very good. I was never left waiting and without service. The waiters gave me my water and cappuccino almost as quickly as I got there. There were no starters like muffins or toast, but my delicious cappuccino held me over until my food came.
Looking around, many customers were either dining with their families or friends. The kitchen was visible from where I was seating, and I wish that it wasn’t so open to the customers. I look down at my menu and the first thing that catches my eye is the history of the cafe. The Local Yolk started in April 1984, and has been beloved ever since. Locals will say it is known for the warm, buttery muffins or the stuffed, savory omelets. I chose to not take this advice and choose something new. I went with Homemade Jalepeno Hash with Eggs.
The Jalepeno was spicy, and maybe a little too spicy. I might be a little biased though, because I am not very tolerant to spicy things. If you are tolerant or love spicy things, you won’t have a problem. My side of white toast dipped perfectly into the gooey egg. The little bowl of fruit saved me from the spice, and balanced out the the savory. The Jalaepeno Hash was surprisingly creamy but not surprisingly full of calories. All together (the coffee, fruit, toast, eggs, and hash) the meal was satisfying and filling, and incredibly egg-cellent.
I changed up my order the next time I went to the cafe. I ordered the Banana French Toast. This french toast was better than my grandmothers, which says a lot. The middle was soft and a little gooey, with a perfect crunchy crust. The lightly sprinkled powder sugar and added bananas added the perfect sweetness. I was happy to dip it in the sweet syrup, but was again aware of the generous calories. Overall, this french toast was sweet and crunchy and remarkable.
This cafe may not be the fanciest or the healthiest, but it is affordable, family oriented, and delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone of any age, and not just locals.
