Known for it’s 50’s diner style, Norms has been a family-friendly restaurant since 1949.
Like usual, on any night, the restaurant is crowded, but as soon as I took a step inside, friendly faces welcomed me. I heard the loud, vivacious sound of families and friends, and true to their motto “where life happens”, I could feel the liveliness and happiness in the atmosphere.
Due to the crowd, I had to wait 30 minutes before being seated. Once seated, the enthusiastic waiter pointed out the specials for the night. The large, well organized menu, featured the history of the restaurant and photographs from past years, along with the list of dishes and detailed descriptions.
I had ordered raspberry iced tea, and one of their most famous signature dishes, The Trio, which consisted of sirloin steak, chicken tenders, butterfly shrimp, and french fries. During the wait, complimentary salads on the house had been served. Once my order came, I noticed how the dish was unorganized and looked like it had been done in a hurry. Despite, the lack of appeal from the physical appearance, the food was delicious. The sirloin steak was juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The tangy, sweet and sour flavor of the shrimp balanced out the saltiness of the chicken tenders. This dish paired perfectly with the refreshing raspberry iced tea.
Next, I ordered another one of Norm’s signature dishes, the California burger. The juiciness of the burger, melted Monterrey jack cheese and fresh avocado kept me devouring this savory burger which was paired with french fries. Aside from their famous dishes, Norms also serves “diner style” desserts like ice cream sundaes, drizzled with hot fudge, old fashioned milkshakes, cheesecake, and much more. After paying the check, walking out the door, I heard a few waiters saying “goodbye” and “thank you for coming!” Despite the long waits, I would definitely come back anytime.
If you dig that “50’s American diner style”, and are looking for a family-friendly restaurant that serves mouth-watering dishes, Norms is definitely the place to be.
