As you walk into the restaurant, the exciting sounds of Big Wok fill your ears. There are waiters asking for peoples orders, the chatter of people talking at there tables, and the sound of the chefs cooking their food. When you go to sit down, the placemats give you some fun Mongolian facts to read while you are waiting for your waiter. One of the placemats gives some background on the unique restaurant you are about to eat at and the other one is about the Chinese New Year so you can see what year/animal you and your friends are. Once your waiter arrives you can order your drinks and a couple of side dishes but most people get the all you can eat buffet with rice and sesame buns. After that you only see your waiter if you want something else to drink or for the check. The all you can eat dinner buffet starts off with many different meats such as chicken, beef, lamb, and pork. And if you are a big eater, this is the place for you because you can go back for seconds as much as you want. Next is a huge variety of fruits and vegetables such as pineapple, broccoli, corn, eggplant and much more. At the end of the buffet there are noodles and many different sauces that go from a regular mild sauce to the exotic dragon sauce.
Once you are done serving your food, you have to wait in line for the chefs to cook it. The line is in an oval shape surrounding two very large circular woks, pertaining to the name “Big Wok” because you physically have to walk around to get your food and because they use woks to cook it. A wok is a large Chinese pan that they use to cook your food and it used often in regular Mongolian dishes. As you WALK around the huge pans, you can hear a combination of the food sizzling and popping as is cooks in front of you while the chefs are mixing, chopping, and constantly pushing the cooking food around. The smell of your food roasting in front of you just makes the meal that much more mouth watering.
Once you have finally completed this unique cooking style, you finally get to eat it!!! And almost everyone loves their meal because you get to chose exactly how much you want of any ingredient. My dish had a mixture of flavors that were all balanced perfectly together with the chicken, carrots, noodles, broccoli, zucchini ,corn, pineapple, onions and spinach. It tasted a bit salty with the chicken and sauces but also sweet with the pineapple, corn, and other fruits and vegetables. The tender chicken and noodles melt in your mouth while the crunchy broccoli and corn also add some texture to your dish. The plate was delicious so I had to go back for seconds; it didn’t cost me a penny more! However, one person at my table got the lamb and she said her whole plate ended up having a lamb tinge to it, so unless you love lamb, I would stay away from it. Also, another person complained about wishing there was more selection of noodles. But besides this minor complaints the over all dining experience was a success. There are limitless possibilities to order at the restaurant down on 250 N Sepulveda Blvd Manhattan Beach, CA90266 for only $10.45 plus tax per person (only including all you can eat buffet). And if I were you I would go try out this unique dinning experience and make your own creation soon!
